Saturday 22 October 2022 – Koning Boudewijn Stadium in Brussels

It is already buzzing at 9 am in front of the Koning Boudewijn Stadium. Today is the DHL Ekiden, a running event organised by Golazo. An hour later, hundreds of teams arrive to run their marathon. The teams consist of six runners, who together cover the marathon distance. The first, third and fifth runners each cover 5 km, the second and fourth runners 10 km and the final runner covers the remaining 7.195 km. Each runner runs a lap on the Koning Boudewijn Stadium track.

The ‘Front Runner Bike’ for the front runners constantly cycles out.  And this year this is our ÅSKA speed pedelec.  That seems fine riding around 20km/h, on a set course, with no cars, nice weather, and lots of atmosphere,… Yet this is no mean feat. The Front Runner Bike must constantly look back to assist the leaders. Above all, he must also clear the road and make the front runners’ way through a constant forest of other runners.  So a horn comes in handy.

Being fit

For us as bike manufacturers, it feels uncomfortable. Promoting your speed pedelec at a running event feels unnatural. Nevertheless, this was a successful day. Many participating runners spoke to us at our stand and wanted more information about our supercommuter. After all, cycling to work is an excellent workout at a low heart rate. Ideal for people who want to be fit and deliver an excellent running performance.  It lays a ‘fond’, we hear from the mouth of an avid runner/commuter.

When we leave the King Baudouin Stadium at 7 pm that evening, we are sure that many runners have discovered a new Belgian speed pedelec today.
